FIFA has ordered Ghana Football Association (GFA) Congress members seeking to large amendment the statutes of the local football governing body.

FIFA maintains the current laws of the GFA are adequately balanced to cater for all interests in the game, hence there is no need to make changes.

FIFA was forced to wade into the matter after the chairman of the Brong Ahafo Regional Football Association, Ralph Gyamberah, secured the backing of more 40 members of Congress necessary to make changes to the 2019 statutes.

“We have strong doubts that the newly proposed congress composition is adequately balanced, which could adversely influence future elections or any sort of decision by the relevant legislative body.”

FIFA also ordered that plans to expand the number of congress delegates be halted.

“We also believe that increasing the number of executive council members to 18, instead of the current 11 members, would result in loosing efficiency in terms of decision-making process”.

FIFA further urged the GFA to disband any amendments in their 26th ordinary Congress, scheduled for September 1.

“In view of the aforementioned, we urge GFA to prorogue the said statutory changes proposed to the 26th ordinary congress and to initiate discussions with FIFA thereon as soon as possible.

“Additionally, and as a whole, we expect GFA, and in particular its Members, to comply with the revised GFA statutes as adopted in 2019, in particular, the transitional clause guaranteeing the transition to a new model for the GFA congress (e.g. art. 81 par. 6 of the GFA statutes currently into force).”
