Former Ghanaian boxing world champion, Alfred Kotey has died in the US after a battle with illness.

The secretary General of the Ghana Boxing Authority, Patrick Johnson confirmed the news, saying: “Kotey had battled illness for some time now.”

Kotey had reportedly suffered a stroke in the midst of some complications and eventually had to be placed on life support.

He was one of Ghana’s 10 boxing world champions. He won the WBO Bantamweight in 1994 when he turned professional.

This is after representing Ghana at the Seoul Olympics in 1988.
