The President of Ghana, H.E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo cut the sod on 15th May 2020 sod for the commencement of the construction of the 44-year-old building which was being funded by the German Bank, Deutsche Bank at a cost of 155 million Euros.

The Maternity and Children’s block which was supposed to be state-of-the-art is being undertaken by Contracta and suppose to be completed in 36 months as revealed by the President.

According to recent reports from Contracta, the building is to be pulled down after it failed the structural integrity test.

However. the Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah has supported the government’s decision to pull down the building for the construction of a new one.

“Currently we have launched stakeholder’s consultation on how best to bring the structure down without necessary coursing avoidable nuisance to people who live around the structure. I mean the Armed forces basic school, the military, KATH staff, and patience on admission,” he stated.

He also said that per the reports available to him, the building might collapse in the future and so to prevent any future eventualities, it has to be pulled down.

“Based on the report available to me, the building will collapse in future if they ignore technical advice from the construction firm. Because of the weak nature of the building as at now.’’
