Born on April 10, 1952, during his playing career, Broos initiated his football journey in Humbeek, playing for KFC Humbeek, and was scouted by RSC Anderlecht at the age of eighteen. As Anderlecht’s central defender for over a decade, he contributed to their success, securing three European trophies, three national championships, and four Belgian Cups.

Representing Belgium from 1974 to 1986, Broos earned 24 caps and played a key role in the team’s fourth-place finish at the 1986 World Cup. In 1983, he joined Club Brugge, clinching the Belgian Cup in 1986 and the championship in 1988, marking the conclusion of his professional playing career in 1988 with five Belgian Cup victories.

Transitioning to coaching, Broos guided Club Brugge from 1991 to 1998, claiming two championships (1992 and 1996) and three Belgian Cups (1991, 1995, and 1996). He then coached Anderlecht from 2002 to 2005, achieving success in the Champions League and securing the 2003–04 season championship. Broos experienced a setback in the 2004–05 season, leading to his dismissal after a goalless draw against Gent.
