According to Asamoah Gyan, even though he had to put so many things on the line for the nation just to represent his country in the AFCON, in the middle of the tournament, he felt that the entire nation was against him even at that tender age when he played for the Black Stars.

Speaking in an interview with GBAfrica, the one-time sensational footballer stated that he had to boycott a deal to play for the English Football club, Manchester City just to play for his country in the AFCON.

I sacrificed for the nation. I should have been out of the tournament but I felt like the love I have

for the country, I decided to come because I had a contract to sign with Man City but I ignored the contract”, he said.

Baby Jet also stated that he was cautiously advised by his agent to snub the African Cup of Nations, go for rehabilitation and afterward sign the contract with Machester City but he paid no attention to him.

He said that he told his agent that the tournament was very important to him because Ghana was still playing in it and since he missed his first chance to play for Ghana in the AFCON in 2006, he decided not to miss it in 2010.
