According to Amazon’s most recent SEC filing, Jeff holds 55 million shares of the business or around 12% of the total shares outstanding. At one point, he held 80 million Amazon shares. Jeff handed 19.7 million shares to his ex-wife as part of his divorce settlement with MacKenzie Bezos in April 2019. The shares were worth $36 billion at the time of the transfer. Jeff’s net worth was temporarily cut from $150 billion to $114 billion as a result of the settlement. Jeff was also an early pre-IPO investor in Google.com and today owns at least $1 billion in Alphabet Inc.
Who is Jeff Bezos married to?
While working for D. E. Shaw in Manhattan in 1992, Jeff Bezos met novelist MacKenzie Tuttle, who was a research associate at the time; they married a year later. They relocated across the country to Seattle, Washington, in 1994, where Bezos launched Amazon. Bezos and his now-ex-wife MacKenzie have four children: three sons and a Chinese-adopted daughter.
Bezos was a passenger in a helicopter that crashed in West Texas in March 2003 while scouting land for Blue Origin; the other three occupants were pilot Charles “Cheater” Bella, Amazon lawyer Elizabeth Korrell, and local rancher Ty Holland. All survived; Bezos suffered just minor injuries and was released from a nearby hospital the same day.
Bezos played a Starfleet official in the 2016 film Star Trek Beyond, and he attended a San Diego Comic-Con screening with the cast and crew. The divorce was formalized on April 4, 2019, with Bezos keeping 75% of the couple’s Amazon equity and MacKenzie receiving the remaining 25% ($35.6 billion) in Amazon stock. Bezos, on the other hand, would retain full voting rights for the pair. Sánchez and Bezos got engaged on May 22, 2023. He is the Explorers Club’s Honorary Chair.
