Ira “Bob” Born wife-The “Father of Peeps” Ira “Bob” Born who happens to be the executive of a candy company has reportedly died.
Born died peacefully on Sunday, January 29th, 2023 at his residence. Born who led the 100-year-old family-owned company throughout his adult life died at the age of 98 years old.
Born was born on September 29th, 1924 in New York City in the United States of America. He was born to Sam Born who was a Russian immigrant who started Just Born shortly before his son’s birth.
The family later moved to Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, where Just Born is still based. Bob Born graduated from Lehigh University with a degree in engineering physics.

Born joined the U.S. Navy and served in the Pacific as a lieutenant and radar specialist on a destroyer. Later, the Navy sent him to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the University of Arizona to pursue graduate studies in math and physics.
Born submitted an application for medical school and was approved; nevertheless, as he awaited the start of his lectures, he started working at Just Born. He was in love with the confectionery industry and made the decision to stay.
In 1953, Just Born purchased Rodda Candy Co., a manufacturer of jelly beans with a side venture making hand-shaped marshmallow candy. The process of making the marshmallows at the time lasted roughly 27 hours.
Bob Born recognized the potential of the candies and worked with a company engineer to develop and construct a system that could produce them in less than six minutes. The company now produces 5.5 million Peeps each day using its existing equipment, which is still based on Bob Born’s design.
According to the firm, Peeps are still the most well-known candy brand from Just Born after 70 years. Each year, Just Born produces approximately 2 billion Peeps, or enough to complete a two-and-a-half time orbit of the earth.
Although there are variations marketed for Halloween, Valentine’s Day, and other holidays, Easter is when it sells the most.
Bob Born also created the recipe for Hot Tamales, another well-known Just Born confection. Goldenberg’s Peanut Chews and Mike and Ike fruit chews are other products made by Just Born.
In 1959, Bob Born was appointed president of Just Born and served in that capacity for more than 30 years. He last went to the Just Born factory on February 15, 2019, when Bethlehem declared that day to be “Bob Born Day,” the start of the Easter season.
He spent the most of his retirement in Florida, where he oversaw a program for literacy and engaged in interests like photography.
