52-year-old Philadelphian Dawn Staley is an American basketball hall-of-fame player and coach who is currently the coach for the South Carolina Gamecocks. Dawn Michelle Staleyis three times an Olympic gold medal won with the team USA as a player and later became the head coach of another US gold medal-winning team.

Staley Michelle Dawn is a five-time SEC coach of the year and the 2012 BCA Female Coach of the Year, and she has helped the Gamecocks become a regular contender for SEC and national titles. Staley has set a lot of records after joining the Gamecocks as their coach, and under her, the team has won two national championships in 2017 and 2022, respectively. She has taken the team to four NCAA finals, and eight NCAA appearances, among other rewarding things she’s done for the team.

Staley is one of the most accomplished players in American women’s basketball history, and even if her coaching career is just getting started, people still acknowledge her for the body of work she has produced. Her induction into the Class of 2013 of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame cemented that legacy. 

The Dawn Staley Award for the best guard in women’s division basketball was instituted in 2013 by the Phoenix Club of Philadelphia. Staley was one of the classes of 2012 inductees into the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame and one of the final candidates for election to the U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame in the same year. She was honored by the WNBA as one of the league’s top players in the summer of 2011.

Along with coaching two National Players of the Year and a National Freshman of the Year, Staley has also assisted eight Gamecocks in earning 19 All-America selections, six SEC Freshman of the Year awards, three SEC Defensive Player of the Year awards, six SEC Player of the Year awards, three SEC 6th Player of the Year awards, and three SEC Player of the Year awards. Eight Gamecocks have been selected in the WNBA Draft in the last five seasons, including 2018 No. 1 pick A’ja Wilson, who went on to win WNBA Rookie of the Year accolades a year after Allisha Gray was named the league’s rookie of the year.

Dawn Staley has always kept her personal relationships private. She has not disclosed that she is married or that she has a partner, but there are rumors that she could have a wife instead of a husband. Despite the fact that Dawn Staley has never taken offense to being called a lesbian by her supporters, however, there are allegations of a relationship between her and Lisa Boyer.

Dawn Michelle Staley is estimated to be worth $2.9 million. Staley’s base pay is $1 million per year, with outside compensation beginning at $1.9 million in her first year and increasing by $100,000 per year after that. According to the school, the head coach’s salary for 2021–22 “begins at $2.9 million and tops out at $3.5 million in the final year.
