American attorney, Jack Smith has worked for the US Department of Justice (DOJ) as an assistant US attorney, an acting US attorney, and the section chief for public integrity.

Jack Smith was born on March 11th, 1943(not too sure if the date published on the web is accurate) in Lincoln, Nebraska in the United States of America. He has been ranked a reputable lawyer by Martindale-Hubbell.

Smith grew up in Clay, a suburb in Syracuse in New York. In 1987, he earned his high school diploma from Liverpool.

He received his Juris Doctor from Harvard Law School in 1994 after receiving his Bachelor of Arts summa cum laude from the State University of New York, Oneonta. Following graduation, he worked as an Assistant District Attorney in the Sex Crimes and Domestic Violence Units of the New York County District Attorney’s office.

Later, Smith joined the Brooklyn office of the United States Attorney, where he brought charges against the police officers who had sodomized Abner Louima and won Ronell Wilson’s execution for the murder of two New York Police Department officers.

He oversaw war crime investigations while employed by the Office of the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court from 2008 to 2010. Smith became in charge of the Public Integrity Section of the US Department of Justice in 2010. (PIS).

During his five years as PIS chief, he prosecuted national security leakers including CIA agent Jeffrey Sterling, Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell, U.S. Representative Rick Renzi, New York Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, and U.S. Representative Rick Renzi. Smith

started working as an assistant US attorney in the Middle District of Tennessee in 2015.

After David Rivera’s resignation in March 2017, he took over as acting US Attorney until Donald Q. Cochran’s nomination took effect in September. In 2017, Smith was appointed vice president and director of litigation at Hospital Corporation of America.

Smith was appointed to a four-year term as the chief prosecutor for the Kosovo Specialist Chambers at The Hague on May 7, 2018, with responsibility for looking into war crimes committed during the Kosovo War, including the case of Salih Mustafa.

On September 11, 2018, he was appointed to the position, and on May 8, 2022, he was given a second term. Additionally, he served as the International Criminal Court’s chief prosecutor for war crimes committed during the Kosovo War.

Smith was appointed by US attorney general Merrick Garland as an independent special counsel in November 2022. He will be in charge of two ongoing criminal investigations by the DOJ into the late president Donald Trump, one into his involvement in the attack on the US Capitol on January 6 and the other into the improper handling of classified information.
