Foster started her career as a child model before appearing in several Disney movies as an adolescent idol, such as Napoleon and Samantha (1972), Freaky Friday (1976), and Candleshoe (1977).
She appeared in the thriller Taxi Driver (1976) and the comedy-drama Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore (1974) directed by Martin Scorsese. She was a nominee for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role as a teenage prostitute in the latter.
