After spending the whole 1996 season in High-A, Guillen made his major league debut for the Pirates on April 1, 1997, and became their regular right fielder. Guillen played for the Pirates for two seasons before being moved to the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. After two injury-plagued seasons with the team, he was dismissed.
He joined the Arizona Diamondbacks in December 2001 and played 54 games before being released.
