Prior to securing a more prominent part as Brandon Walsh in the Richard Donner-directed film The Goonies (1985), Brolin began his career in TV movies and cameo appearances on TV series.

He was a candidate for the television series 21 Jump Street’s Tom Hanson part; Brolin and Johnny Depp were the two finalists, and the two grew close and stayed friends. In the end, Depp was cast in the part. During the first season of the show, Brolin made a cameo appearance in one episode.

Brolin appeared in the 1994 film Roadflower in a minor capacity. After his second picture, Thrashin’, debuted and Brolin saw what he described as “horrendous” acting on his part, he has hinted that he gave up on acting for years.

The announcement that Brolin would portray Thanos in the Marvel Cinematic Universe was made in 2014. He does both voice acting and motion capture work to represent the character.
