Maurizio Sarri has been sacked by Juventus after failing to win this season’s Champions League as the dream ended in the round of 16 last night.

Juventus suffered a shock elimination at the hands of Lyon on Friday despite the tie ending 2-2 on aggregate.

Juventus won 2-1 at home but 1-0 defeat in France five months ago meant that the French side progressed to the quarter-finals courtesy of the away goals rule.

Sarri recently guided Juventus to win their ninth straight league title but the failure to deliver the Champions League trophy has led to his dismissal.

Italian Sarri, 61, was appointed on a three-year contract last summer after one year at Premier League club Chelsea.
