KL Rahul is one of Indian finest wicket-taker-batsmen in the current generation to play for the national side and Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL. Who is KL Rahul?

Kannur Lokesh Rahul known simply as KL Rahul first opened his eyes on 18 April 1992 in Bangalore, Karnataka, India. He is the youngest of two siblings birthed to Rajeshwari Lokesh and Dr. K. N. Lokesh, His older sister is Bhavna Rahul.

Rahul was raised in a well-to-do family as both his parents are highly educated. His mother is a professor at Mangalore University and his father the former director and professor of the National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK).

Rahul did not have that much an early start in cricket as he only started training when he was 10 years old. At age 12, he was already playing for Bangalore United Cricket Club and his club in Mangalore.

Being birthed to intellectuals, he had god education from some of the best schools the Mangalore area had to offer. He attended NITK English Medium School and pre-university at St. Aloysius College before enrolling at Jain University where he pursued cricket as a career.

Rahul had a taste of first-class cricket during the 2010-11 season when he made his debut for Karnataka. His performances earned him a spot on the U-19 squad for the 2010 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup.

Three years after the tournament, the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League hired his services. He made his debut in 2013 and ended the season scoring 1,033 first-class runs, and also becoming the second highest scorer that season.

Ahead of the 2014 IPL auction, Rahul was bought by the Sunrisers Hyderabad where je spend just a season and returned to the RCB for the 2016 IPL season. He has also played for the Kings XI Punjab and currently with the Lucknow Super Giants.

Rahul has also being on international duties with the Indian national cricket team, making his Test-match debut against Australian at their famous Melbourne Cricket Ground. On the international stage thus far, he was won two ACC Asia Cups in 2018 and 2023 while finishing as runner-up at the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup.

Rahul married his girlfriend and daughter of actor Athiya Shetty on 23 January 2023 in a lavish traditional ceremony which hosted fellow cricketers and some other top stars including actors at Suniel Shetty’s Khandala farmhouse in Khandala.
