The Trotro Driver and his mate who fought back karate-style after receiving slaps and blows from a Police officer over an alleged traffic offense in Accra are currently being subjected to torture with high-level police approval, MyNewsGh.com has learnt.

The driver, Francis Buabeng, and his mate, Albert Ansah, were arrested last after they were captured in video exchanging blows with a uniformed policeman in a helmet at a bus stop around Weija in Accra.

It is alleged that the driver jumped red light and was pursued by the officer on a motorbike to a bus stop where the officer allegedly assaulted continuously forcing the driver to retaliate in similar manner.

The two, Francis and Albert were arrested and put before the Weija Circuit Court on Monday without legal presentation.

MyNewsGh.com is reliably informed that the rank and file of the police are expressing full support for the “unofficial” punishment being meted out to the two, who are being held in a secret police facility after their appearance in court without a lawyer.

Policemen  and women in the country are enraged by the video and many have vowed to take action on their own against the driver and his mate and discipline them.

An eyewitness told MyNewsGh.com that other Policemen from other police stations stormed Odorkor police station to slap the suspects when news of their arrest went viral but officials restrained them. The slaps were restricted to Odorkor police who later claim to have handed the two to the Police Headquarters.

But as at press time, the two are allegedly being held in a secret police warehouse and beaten up.

The move, we learnt, is to appease police personnel across the country, who have expressed anger about the viral video of their colleague being subject to karate blows.

A source who spoke to MyNewsGh.com under strict condition of anonymity said the “police big guys are bent on teaching them a lesson to serve as a deterrent to other civilians who want to disrespect this uniform. We support it fully. If I show you our whatsapp groups, you will understand what I am talking about. The comrades are angry all over. We were waiting to see how they will handle it. Next time, when they see a uniform they will stiff”.

According to our source, the court is likely to give them a month or two or most six months which will be “woefully insulting to us.”

“It has been happening and we don’t do anything about it. You remember the Marwako at Nima what they did to our man there. We will make sure it doesn’t happen again. We have been soft too much”.

As at press time, the official whereabouts of the two, driver and mate, who were supposed to be at Police Headquarters remains unknown.

Odorkor District Police claim to have transferred the two from their custody when they were  taken to court and later to the police headquarters in Accra.

But upon follow up, officials at the Police headquarters also denied receiving the accused persons.

We will deal with them…

Following the video going viral, DSP Effia Tenge, who is Accra Police PRO, said the “police is appalled by the kind of growing lawlessness especially by drivers and motorists on the routes of Accra and to a larger extent the entire country.”

“The police administration and the regional command will like to state that this kind of growing lawlessness will not be countenanced and these people will be made to face the full rigors of the law”. She added.

It is unclear whether the “full rigours of the law” includes secret torture and denying the suspects access to their lawyers who are currently combing Accra in search of their clients.

Human rights organizations and other vehicles owners and drivers groups have vowed to ensure justice is served in favour of the driver and his mate who they alleged were being assaulted and acted in self defense.
