He described their decision as an insensitive one, asking Ghanaians to pay for the freebies they enjoyed during the lockdown.

As part of steps to shore up revenue, the government enacted a Covid-19 tax, a financial sector cleanup levy, and two others.

The new planned levy would be a 1% raise on both the current VAT flat rate and a National Health Insurance Scheme.

He also said that the government’s intentions for making some utilities free in the country were due to last year’s election to get Ghanaians on their side.

In an interview with Nana Aba Anamoah on the Starr Chat show on Starr FM, Kwame A-Plus said; “this coronavirus relief was an opportunity for people to steal from this country. There are so many people who don’t know this, you find people who had so much money, we see them every day. Their parents had money, they’ve grown up, we sit down with them, they are nobody. You know why because their fathers were stealing from poor people.”

“So if Madam Cynthia Morrison will do her own audit, and will listen with an ear which is not a political ear, she will notice that there were people who were stealing food that is meant for poor people and selling it to provision stores,” he added.

A Plus also challenged the government’s claim that it offered free food to the less fortunate during the Covid-19-induced lockdown last year, saying, “They claimed they cooked food for around 200,000 people a day.

“The Accra sports stadium has a capacity of 40,000 people, so if you’re cooking for 100,000 people, you’ll need three Accra sports stadiums. And when are you going to begin preparing the meal?” he quizzed.

“I saw something, they said Ghana Water spent some millions, what is the revenue for Ghana Water in a whole year before you give free water that costs that much?”

He, therefore, described the government’s decision as an insensitive one and the only reason for the freebies was to be able to win last year’s election adding that it is deception on the part of the government.
