According to several online reports, Lubin was battling cancer and his health began deteriorating after he was diagnosed with the illness. Following the diagnosis, doctors admitted a low chance of overcoming the disease hence, he was taken from the hospital and spent the last days at home with his family. He died from cancer on Monday, January 22, 2024, at age 46.

Throughout his playing career from 1995 to 2007 as a point guard, Lubin also played for Ironi Ramat Gan and Hapoel Tel Aviv in the Israeli Super League.

He won the Israeli double of the league championship and State Cup in 2003 with Maccabi Tel Aviv, with whom he also played in the Euroleague.

He also had stints with Azovmash in Ukraine, Apollon Patras in Greece, and Bulgaria’s CSKA Sofia. Lubin played 66 games with the national team.

After his playing career, he went on to become a coach. After several seasons, he was appointed an assistant in the Israeli national team in 2014.

Lubin served as the head coach for six Israeli Super League teams, including Hapoel Beer Sheva this season, from which he quit in November 2023 due to his illness.

He was also an assistant coach for the Israeli national team, Maccabi Tel Aviv and Panathinaikos Athens.
