A Ghanaian man who was spotted in a viral video mercilessly whipping a toddler has reportedly been arrested by the police.

According to reports, the man identified as Richard Kofi who is believed to be the father of the toddler was arrested on Wednesday at Akaa Buem in Jasikan in the Oti Region. Further reports from The Fourth Estate reveals that the mother of the toddler has also been arrested.

A few days ago, a video surfaced on social media which had the toddler crying helplessly as he was being whipped mercilessly by his father. The video sparked a lot of reactions on social media as many condemned the act and also drew the attention of the authorities to the viral video.

The Ghana Police Service responded to this and stated that efforts were underway to track down the man and get him arrested and also rescue the child. In addition, the police had offered a reward of GHc2000 to anyone with information that could result in the capture of the male adult who had committed the crime.

Child Rights International, a non-governmental organization, condemned the beating and offered a GHc10,000 reward for the man’s capture.

Well, after the man and his wife were arrested by the police, the child was rescued and now in the care of the police.

Ghanaian US-based gospel musician, Sonnie Badu also called for the arrest of the other person who filmed the incident and also another man who was spotted sitting down and watching as the child suffers.
