Marcus Bontempelli, a professional Australian rules football player with the Western Bulldogs in the Australian Football League (AFL), was born on November 24, 1995. He was the vice captain of the Western Bulldogs from 2018 to 2019 before taking over as captain in 2020.
In the 2013 AFL draft, Bontempelli was selected with the fourth overall pick. In the 2014 AFL season, he made his AFL debut. After finishing second in the overall count at the end of the 2014 season, he was nominated for the AFL Rising Star award in round thirteen of that year.
He has since won the AFL Premiership, been named an All-Australian five times, won the Charles Sutton Medal five times, and been named the AFLCA Champion Player of the Year. In both the 2021 and 2023 Brownlow Medals, he finished second.
In Melbourne, Victoria, Marcus Bontempelli started playing junior football with the Eltham Football Club. In Victoria’s premier under-18 tournament, the TAC Cup, he competed for the Northern Knights. With his abilities, athleticism, and leadership on the field, Bontempelli won over scouts and was selected by the Western Bulldogs.

At first, it was unclear where Bontempelli would probably be chosen in the AFL draft of 2013. According to some sources, Bontempelli might go as low as pick 15 or perhaps as low as pick 4.
After it was reported that Essendon was willing to transfer their eleventh selection and forward Stewart Crameri in exchange for pick four, there were rumors that Essendon was attempting to get Bontempelli. This, however, did not come to pass. In the end, Bontempelli was chosen with the fourth pick overall, after Josh Kelly, Tom Boyd, and Jack Billings.
