The conservative African environment demands that women are not expected to have babies out of wedlock. Derogatory terms such as ‘born one’ are given to baby mamas and some women who fall within this bracket somewhat feel stigmatized.

This primitive African setup forgets that getting married or deciding to have a kid without a husband is strictly a choice. Some of our favorite Ghanaian celebs unfortunately have this ‘born one’ tag loosely hanging around their necks and although they don’t feel anything bad about it considering circumstances which led to that situation, the society is always on a standby mode ready to give them that subtle reminder that they have kids with no fathers.

Let’s take a look at them.

1. Jackie Appi ah

In case you didn’t know, delectable screen icon Jackie Appiah was once married to one Peter Agyemang in 2005 with whom she had her only son, Damien Agyemang. Unfortunately, the marriage crashed three years later. The media reported Mr. Agyemang as saying Jackie Appiah was a liar and a cheat while another cluster of the media disclosed Mr Agyemang was a very ‘dangerous’ man.

Their divorce was finalized in 2012 after which they all moved on. The actress is yet to settle or enter into a serious relationship. So far, she has only Damien to show for her failed marriage.

2. Joselyn Dumas

TV personality and actress Joselyn Dumas was also married just like Jackie Appiah and this is a fact a lot of people do not know. The curvaceous Ghanaian celebrity married while she was in the United States of America to a man whose identity still remains a mystery.

The marriage produced one daughter and that’s the only child of the actress as she still remains single. The marriage reportedly crashed after three years and although Joselyn always shuns away from touching on that story, she admits her inexperience and relatively young age were contributory factors to the failed marriage.

3. Nana Aba Anamoah

The current boss of GHone and eloquent broadcaster Nana Aba Anamoah has a cute son with Ghana’s best fashionista at the moment- Richard Brown aka Osebo. Nana Aba Anamoah was very young when she was impregnated by the handsome and rich older man Osebo. There was no marriage and the relationship also fizzled into thin air. In a fresh interview recently with blogger Zionfelix, Osebo disclosed that it was not part of his plans to marry the outspoken media personality.

Meanwhile, Osebo made frantic efforts to be close to his son but he was always been thwarted by Nana Aba and all of us know the dramas they subsequently sprinkled on the floor which were fed on by the media.

4. Juliet Ibrahm

Juliet Ibrahim has probably been destined not to get married. After getting a cute son during her marriage with Kwadwo Safo Jnr which was soon followed by a nasty divorce after which she moved on with Nigerian rapper Iceberg Slim which also crashed predictably, the beautiful screen goddess is yet to get married. Juliet summed up her frustration with her failed marriage with Kwadwo Safo Jnr in an Instagram post thus: ‘To Juliet, no one should be judged or condemned for leaving his or her marriage.

People have had their own perception of what led to my divorce. I have sat down for many years and have had to deal with the pain and insults from the public who had no clue what I went through as a person during that period and how it affected me. The depression and all that happened. All I will say is you should never judge someone who wants to come out of a marriage. Because sometimes it is better to come out of it than to stay in it. For your own sanity and mental stability, it is always good to take a bold decision for yourself. For your kids, if there are kids involved take a bold decision.’

5. Mzbel

Veteran songstress, Mzbel has said time without number that she’s not interested in marriage. The 40-year-old Ghanaian artiste cum radio presenter has a son called Aaron Adepa Amoah. To this day no one knows who the father of her child is although the rumour compass has often pointed to Ghanaian millionaire Prince Kofi Amoabeng. From the look of things, Mzbel is comfortable playing the single mum role with no intention of getting married. She recently told Graphic Showbiz in an interview that she is currently in a relationship discloses she is just not ready for marriage.

‘I am dating a very responsible guy, he is like a father figure to me and a big brother at the same time. The thing is, I don’t have plans of settling down soon. If it happens, fine, but I don’t think marriage is for everyone. I love the way we are now, the way we are is cool. I feel I can’t handle marriage, the way we are now is very private and quiet, no family member involved, no drama, no trouble. He has changed me a lot. I am not as loud as I used to be on social media. He is very supportive of me and all my businesses and I am very glad to have him in my life,’ she told Graphic Showbiz recently.
