For over a decade, there has been a debate over who is actually the GREATEST FOOTBALLER OF ALL TIME (GOAT), and this has been an accolade that has been jointly shared between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Although both players are very unique in their own ways, there are some who believe that one is better than the other and always, and many believe that Messi is the better one.
Whiles Cristiano Ronaldo has garnered some unprecedented records, Lionel Messi winning the World Cup with Argentina has shifted the narrative in his favor.
This has become so considering the fact that he has played two World Cup finals – 2014 and 2022 and won one, in 2022.
For Cristiano Ronaldo, he has never played in a World Cup Semi-Final let alone play in the World Cup.
Some may argue that Cristiano Ronaldo was part of the Real Madrid side that won three Champions League trophies in a row, however, Messi was also part of the Barcelona team who won the sextuple in one season.
On the continental stage, they have both tasted glories as both have won their respective continental trophies – Euros for Cristiano Ronaldo and Copa América for Lionel Messi.
On the individual level, they have both made names for themselves as they have won several individual awards.
What was left was the World Cup and once it has been won by Lionel Messi, it suggests that he is currently at the top of the GOAT debate. Some may argue that Cristiano Ronaldo also has a chance to win the World Cup if only he can comeback in 2026, however, that will be quite mind-blowing considering the fact that he will be 42 years old by then.
At this point, we are convinced that Lionel Messi can be considered the GREATEST OF ALL TIME, unless Cristiano Ronaldo fans have something fascinating to prove.
