When Michael was cast as Jake Ryan in the coming-of-age comedy “Sixteen Candles,” his acting career officially began in 1984. After receiving critical acclaim for this film, he further proceeded to star in the 1984 motion pictures “Racing with the Moon” and the 1985 films “Sylvester” and “Vision Quest.”

He portrayed Joe Perretti in the 1990 film “Mermaids” and Al Carver in the 1991 film “Wild Heart Can’t Be Broken,” which ended up being his final performance.
