Morgan Freeman Wife: Is Morgan Freeman Married? – Morgan Freeman was given to his maternal grandmother in Charleston, Mississippi, when he was a young child.

During his formative years, he relocated frequently, living in Greenwood, Mississippi, Gary, Indiana, and ultimately Chicago, Illinois. Freeman got pneumonia when he was 16 years old.

At the young age of nine, Morgan Freeman reportedly made his acting debut and this was when he was the lead in a school play. Then he went to Broad Street High School in Greenwood, Mississippi, which is now Threadgill Elementary School.

He won a statewide drama competition when he was 12 years old, and while adjusting to school, he also discovered music and theater.

Freeman graduated from high school in 1955, but he chose to enlist in the US Air Force rather than accept a partial drama scholarship from Jackson State University.

As he progressed through the ranks, he worked as an airman first class repairing automatic tracking radars. He served in the military from 1955 to 1959 before relocating to Los Angeles, California, where he studied acting at the Pasadena Playhouse.

At Los Angeles City College, where he also studied theatre arts, a teacher urged him to pursue a career in dance.

Freeman was a dancer at the 1964 World’s Fair and a performer with the San Francisco Opera Ring musical theater troupe. He performed in a touring production of The Royal Hunt of the Sun and was a background extra in Rod Steiger’s 1965 drama The Pawnbroker, directed by Sidney Lumet.

Between his dancing and acting gigs, Freeman discovered that acting was his true passion.

Before making his Broadway debut in 1968’s all-black production of Hello, Dolly!, which also starred Pearl Bailey and Cab Calloway, Freeman made his Off-Broadway debut in 1967, appearing opposite Viveca Lindfors in The Nigger Lovers, a play about the Freedom Riders during the American Civil Rights Movement. He also appeared on stage in The Dozens in 1969.

In 1989, Freeman released four movies. He played Sergeant Major John Rawlins in the Edward Zwick film Glory, which was about the 54th Massachusetts Infantry Regiment, the second African-American regiment in the Union Army during the American Civil War. Desson Thomson praised Freeman and co-star Denzel Washington in an article for The Washington Post for having a “warming sense of fraternity.”

In the comedy-drama Driving Miss Daisy, Freeman co-starred with Dan Aykroyd and Jessica Tandy. Freeman reprises his role as Hoke Colburn, a chauffeur for a Jewish widow, in the play by Alfred Uhry, in which he had previously appeared.
