AS Roma manager, Jose Mourinho has opened up about why he decided to sign former Chelsea striker, Tammy Abraham for €40 million this season.

According to Mourinho, he has always preferred to use Africans in his attacking lineup as a magic charm that wins his games. He cited the instance where he gave Marcus Rashford at Man United the opportunity to play.

He said: “My philosophy will never change. My center backs can come from anywhere. Midfielders also.
But my main Striker should be of African Origin, that is my lucky charm to win titles, This is why I pushed for young Tammy Abraham to come join me.”

“If you remember under my watch at Man United, I made Rashford world class at very young age, we won Europa League and other honors. I left, and he got new lessons from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer , so he forgot to score goals. It’s painful to see.”

Meanwhile, Mourinho signed a three-year deal with Roma at the start of May, but with the current situation and how things are panning out, he sees his long term future at the club and hence has requested to stay longer. The ace coach was welcomed at the Trigoria training complex by their fans.

He said: “Hopefully success arrives with me because the contract is a three-year contract – my first with AS Roma. Maybe there is a second one day.

“It’s a job where you can only get better until the day where you lose your motivation which I think is the only thing that can make a football coach decide to stop or it’s not enough or to stop learning. That’s not my case. I’m very far from it.

“I’m learning every day so I think I’m much better. And it’s one thing to come to a country for the first time where you arrive in level zero and you have everything to learn about it. In my case of course that’s not the case.
