Najee Harris was born to Tiana Hicks and Curtis Harris Sr. He happens to be the youngest of five children. His siblings are; Curtis Harris Jr., Malachi Harris, Fela Harris, and Jahmila Harris. He was raised by a single mother along with his four siblings.
His parents always battled to meet their basic necessities and had very little money to realize their children’s goals. It was difficult for his parents to shield their kids from acts of communal violence. They resided in Antioch, which is a few miles east of Oakland and is thought to be one of the worst communities due to disturbing violence and occasionally found dead corpses in the street.
Najee Harris career
The Pittsburgh Steelers selected Harris with the 24th overall pick in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft. The first running back chosen was him.
Harris inked a $13.1 million rookie deal with the Steelers on May 25, 2021, which includes a $6.9 million signing bonus spread over four years.
Harris had 142 all-purpose yards in Week 3’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals, with 14 catches out of 19 targets. These were the second-highest number of targets for a running back since 1992 (the year the data was initially kept), and they tied the NFL record for the most catches in a game for a rookie.
Harris gained 122 yards on 23 runs and a rushing touchdown in the 27–19 victory over the Denver Broncos in Week 5.
It was his first-ever game with over 100 yards of rushes. After Franco Harris in 1972, he became the first rookie for the Steelers to achieve 100 yards rushing in his first five games and score a touchdown on the ground.
In a 26–14 victory over the Cleveland Browns in Week 17, Harris rushed for a career-high 188 yards and the game-winning touchdown.
In addition to 1,200 running yards and seven touchdowns, Harris also finished his rookie campaign with 74 receptions for 467 yards and three scores.
He topped all running backs in receptions and placed fourth in all-purpose and rushing yards. With 381 touches, he had the most in the NFL and no fumbles.
He was chosen as the Bengals running back Joe Mixon’s backup for the 2022 Pro Bowl. The NFL All-Rookie Team included him.
Harris’s 2022 campaign got off to a slow start. Only three times in the season’s first eight games did he surpass 50 rushing yards and score three touchdowns in all.
Although Harris insisted it wasn’t the case, it raised concerns about whether the Lisfranc strain he sustained during training camp was having an impact on his output.
He would go on to rush for more than 50 yards in seven of the next nine games and score seven touchdowns in all after the team’s bye week.
In a game against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 17, he had his greatest performance of the year. With less than a minute remaining, Harris scored the game-winning touchdown on a 111-yard rush from rookie quarterback Kenny Pickett.
With 272 carries for 1,038 yards, seven running scores, and 41 receptions for 229 yards and three receiving touchdowns, he concluded the 2022 campaign with impressive stats. Harris became the first player in the history of the Steelers to carry for 1,000 yards in just two seasons.
