The power of social media has been brought to bear once again after help came to Abednego Sackey, days after his superb SSCE results hit the internet.

The young himself took to Facebook to share a rather gripping tale about how her mom, the sole financier of his education died few days after he had seven A1s and B2.

He posted his plight on Facebook asking benevolent individuals to come to his aid in order to further his education after losing his mother.

He wrote:

“My name is Sackey Abednego. I completed School at Subriso L/A JHS and Kade SHS in the Kwaebibirem Municipal Ass. I offered science and had the result here but unfortunately for me my single mum who provides for me passed out before my final exams.”

“I’m therefore pleading with the stakeholders and the good people of Ghana to help me financially to further my education at the tertiary level. My contact is 0245251449. God bless the helping hand. Amen.”

His post caught the attention of some persons at the presidency, who then informed President Akufo-Addo.

The President subsequently directed the Registrar of the Scholarship Secretariat, Mr Kingsley Agyemang, to invite Abednego Sackey and award him a full scholarship.

The Registrar after receiving Master Abednego and his auntie at his office on Wednesday, October 2, said the Secretariat was glad to have come to his aid.

“His dream is to study medicine and we as a government agency will make sure that he gains admission to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology with a full scholarship in addition to stipends throughout his period of learning,” he said.

He also charged Abednego Sackey to make the President and the country as a whole proud by taking his studies seriously.

In addition, the Registrar made a personal donation of GH₵1000 to the family of Abednego Sackey.

Janet Sackey, Auntie of Master Abednego, could not hide her joy and praised the President for coming to their aid.

“I am even short of words. We thought all was lost. I want to say a big thank you to President Akufo-Addo and everyone who has helped my child to pursue his dreams. And to Mr Agyemang and the Scholarship Secretariat, I will want to say a big thank you,” she said.
