Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, Member of Parliament for Manhyia South Constituency and Minister of Energy, has accused journalists in Kumasi of accepting bribes from certain groups in order to make the ruling government unpopular in its stronghold.

He did not, however, mention the journalists’ respective media outlets. Their plan, he claims, is to make the New Patriotic Party (NPP) unpopular in the Ashanti Region, but the government is doing well there.

Dr. Opoku Prempeh, speaking to the chiefs and people of Suame in Kumasi during the sod-cutting ceremony for the construction of a four-tier interchange, argued that the NPP is the only political party in the country capable of transforming the region.

He urged the residents and good people of the Ashanti Region to be grateful to the ruling government for the numerous projects currently underway in the region.

He also used the opportunity to chastise those who accuse the ruling NPP government of failing to develop the Ashanti Region because of the absence of the Suame interchange.

In his submission, he said;

“Journalists have taken money and they sit on radio to insult the government and the officials. Even God created us, He requests for thanks from us anytime He does something good for us.”
