Ghana President Nana Akufo-Addo has been re-elected for a second term, the Electoral Commission (EC) announced on Thursday,

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate, Akufo-Addo beat his closest competitor, John Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), who was also seeking a second term as president.

Akufo-Addo obtained 6,730,413 representing 51.59% compared to Mahama, who secured 6,214,899, representing 47.46% of the total valid votes cast.

EC boss Jean Mensah that there results for the Techiman South is outstanding due as it is being contested.

However, she noted that even if all those votes are added to the ones obtained by former President Mahama, it will not add up to the 50 plus 1 per cent he needs to win the election.
