Raja Zarith Sofiah Children: Meet Her 6 Children – Raja Zarith Sofiah holds the esteemed titles of Raja Permaisuri Agong (Queen) of Malaysia and Permaisuri (Queen) of Johor, as the spouse of Sultan Ibrahim ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar.

Originally born into the Perak royal family, she ventured into academia at Somerville College, Oxford, where she married the heir to the Johor throne. Now a mother of six, she actively engages in the endeavors of non-governmental organizations and universities, contributing periodic columns to a newspaper.

Born 14 August 1959, her early education includes attending Datin Khadijah Primary School and Raja Perempuan Kelsom School in Kuala Kangsar before completing her secondary education at Cheltenham Ladies’ College. Tunku Ismail Idris Abdul Majid Abu Bakar, born on 30 June 1984, holds the esteemed position of Tunku Mahkota of Johor, embodying the future leadership of the state.

Tunku Tun Aminah, born on 8 April 1986, adds grace and charm to the family with her presence.

Tunku Idris Iskandar, born on 25 December 1987, serves as the Tunku Temenggong of Johor, playing a significant role in the royal hierarchy.

Tunku Abdul Jalil, born on 5 July 1990, served as the Tunku Laksamana of Johor until his untimely passing on 5 December 2015. His legacy remains an integral part of the family’s history.

Tunku Abdul Rahman, born on 5 February 1993, holds the title of Tunku Panglima of Johor, contributing to the family’s continued legacy and service to the state.

Tunku Abu Bakar, born on 30 May 2001, carries the mantle of Tunku Putera of Johor, representing the younger generation of the royal family and embodying the hopes and aspirations for the future.

As of now, Raja Zarith Sofiah assumes key roles such as the chancellor of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Royal Advisor to the Malaysian Red Crescent Society, Chairman of the Yayasan Raja Zarith Sofiah Negeri Johor (YRZSNJ), and Chairman of the Tunku Laksamana Johor Cancer Foundation (TLJCF). Additionally, she serves as a Fellow at the School of Language Studies and Linguistics, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). Her involvement extends to being the Royal Patron of the Oxford University Malaysia Club (OUMC) since Michaelmas 2011.

A proponent of enhancing English usage in Malaysia, Raja Zarith Sofiah is fluent in Malay, English, Mandarin Chinese, Italian, and French. Beyond her linguistic pursuits, she has authored and illustrated children’s books, including “Puteri Gunung Ledang,” and contributes to The Star’s “Mind Matters” column.

Demonstrating a commitment to philanthropy, she supports various charitable and non-governmental organizations. Her patronage includes the Spastic Children’s Association of Johor, the Rotary Club of Tebrau Heart Fund, and the Malaysian English Language Teaching Association. Raja Zarith Sofiah also chairs the Community Services Committee of the Malaysian Red Crescent Society.

Actively participating in religious activities, she lends her name to the Yayasan Raja Zarith Sofiah Negeri Johor (YRZSNJ), established on 28 November 2012. Launched at the Kuala Lumpur campus of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, this foundation aims to generate funds for diverse educational programs, aligning with the teachings of Islam as advocated by the Royal Johor Institution, in collaboration with Universiti Teknologi Malaysia.
