Doan was born on June 16, 1998, in Amagasaki, an industrial city in Hyōgo Prefecture, Japan. He joined the J1 League club Gamba Osaka, Japan from their youth team in 2015.
In July 2017, he moved to Europe to join the Dutch Eredivisie club Groningen. He played 61 matches and scored 15 goals.
It was during his era at Groningen that he got called up for the Japan-U-20 team for the 2017 U-20 World Cup. He played four matches and scored 3 goals.
In 2018 he was called up to the Japan senior national team against Costa Rica and in 2019, he was part of the Japanese squad that won 2nd place in the Asian cup.
After two years with Groningen, he moved to PSV Eindhoven. In September 2020, he moved to German Bundesliga club, Arminia Bielefeld.
