In an interview with the Dutch daily Algemeen Dagblad, celebrated Sportsman, Roger Federer gave the strongest indication yet that he might be ending his tennis career.

Roger Federer admitted in the interview that he would be content not playing tennis anymore.

“I am a winner lover but, if you’re not competitive anymore, then it’s better to stop,

” Federer told the newspaper.

“I don’t think I need the tennis. I am happy with the little things, like when my son does something right and when my daughter comes home with a good grade.

“Tennis is part of, but not my entire identity. I want to be and remain successful and put a lot of energy into business, probably give more than I should sometimes – but that can also be done outside of sports.

“I know a professional career can’t last forever and that’s okay.”

The 20-time Grand Slam champion, who missed Wimbledon due to a knee injury, hasn’t participated in a competitive game since the All England Club tournament last year.

Up until this year, Federer had participated in each Wimbledon event since his debut in 1999.

The 40-year-old, who wore a sharp suit to witness the action on the tournament’s opening Sunday, was only able to watch this time as a spectator, though.

Federer’s last Grand Slam victory occurred at the Australian Open in Melbourne at the beginning of 2018.

He has suffered from a recurring knee issue for the past few years, which has required three surgeries.
