Doubs participated in high school football as a wide receiver, running back, and quarterback. Doubs caught 13 catches for 354 yards and five scores as a senior, in addition to running 1,757 yards and 28 touchdowns.
247Sports.com rated him as a three-star recruit, but Rivals.com listed him as a two-star recruit. The University of Nevada, Reno is where he committed.
In 2018, Doubs caught 43 passes for 562 yards and two touchdowns as a true freshman. He also scored a touchdown in his debut game against Portland State after returning a punt 80 yards.
Doubs participated in ten games during his sophomore campaign, gaining 649 yards on 44 grabs for four touchdowns. He was declared the team MVP of Nevada following his performance.
Doubs would record a 1,000-yard season and nine touchdowns in his junior year. After leading the conference in receiving yards, he was selected to the Mountain West Conference First Squad All-Star squad.

During the 38–20 victory in Week 1 over the Chicago Bears, Doubs caught four catches for 26 yards and two receiving touchdowns.
On September 24, in a thrilling Week 3 victory over the New Orleans Saints, Doubs caught the game-winning touchdown, an eight-yard pass from Jordan Love. He had five receptions for 73 yards and a touchdown toward the end of the game.
