This proved to be crucial as it led to his arrest, which ultimately ended up in Kevin being convicted for second-degree murder. He was handed a life sentence. However, two years later, his lawyers appealed the conviction, and he was given a new trial, wherein he was found not guilty. He was subsequently released from prison.
