James Brown (May 3, 1933 – December 25, 2006) was a vocalist and musician from the United States. He is known as “the Hardest-Working Man in Show Business,” “Godfather of Soul,” “Mr. Dynamite,” and “Soul Brother No. 1” in addition to being the fundamental founder of funk music and a significant character of twentieth-century music.
During his more than 50-year career, he influenced the creation of various music genres. Brown was one of the original ten honorees into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame on January 23, 1986, in New York.

James Brown received numerous prizes and honors throughout his career and after his death. The City Council of Steamboat Springs, Colorado, polled people in 1993 to determine a new name for the Shield Drive bridge that crossed the Yampa River. “James Brown Soul Centre of the Universe Bridge” received the most votes (7,717).
Brown attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the bridge’s official dedication in September 1993. Local ranchers initiated a petition to change the name back to “Stockbridge” for historical grounds, but they backed down after locals opposed their attempts due to the popularity of Brown’s moniker. On July 4, 2002, Brown returned to Steamboat Springs, Colorado, for an outdoor event, performing among acts such as the String Cheese Incident.
Brown garnered numerous significant music industry accolades and honors throughout his long career. He was inducted into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame in 1983. Brown was one of the original inductees into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame on January 23, 1986, at its inaugural induction dinner in New York. Members of his first singing group, the Famous Flames (Bobby Byrd, Johnny Terry, Bobby Bennett, and Lloyd Stallworth), were not inducted at the time.
On April 14, 2012, the Famous Flames were admitted into the Hall of Fame alongside Brown, without the requirement for nomination or voting, because they should have been honored with him in 1986.
Brown received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 34th annual Grammy Awards on February 25, 1992. A year later, at the 4th annual Rhythm & Blues Foundation Pioneer Awards, he won a Lifetime Achievement Award. On January 10, 1997, a ceremony was held to honor Brown with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
