The Minister for Food and Agriculture, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto has debunked notions that there is a scarcity of food in Ghana.
The Minister argued that the increase in food prices was attributable to external factors such as an increase in imported chemicals, rather than Ghana’s policies.
Dr Afriyie Akoto spoke to MOFA officials and farmers in the Eastern Region as part of his official tour.
He said that in spite of external factors outside his control, the government led by Akufo Addo was lowering production costs to assist customers.
According to Dr. Afriyie Akoto, the state is looking into ways to compel banks to lend to farmers in order to boost output.
“There is no food scarcity in Ghana, as has been claimed; rather, food is costly owing to external circumstances.”
“We are pushing farmers to transition to organic fertilizers generated locally to lessen fertilizer scarcity on food production and asked the far west to move swiftly to compost.”
In other news, Clergyman and Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana and Chairman of the Christian Council of Ghana, Prof. Joseph Obiri Yeboah, claims that his mission is to assist current administrations rather than opposition parties.
Prof. Joseph Obiri Yeboah was replying to those who claimed that although economic mismanagement, corruption, misery, and human rights abuses were heightened under the NPP government, the clergy remained mute, but they were rather vocal under the Mahama-led NDC administration.
During ABETICOE’s 70th anniversary on June 17, 2022, Prof. Obiri Yeboah claimed that such accusations against the clergy are unfounded.
