Tim Cook, legally known as Timothy Donald Cook, was born in Mobile, Alabama in the United States of America to Geraldine Cook, a pharmacist, and Don Cook, a worker at the shipyard. Cook grew up at Robertdale alongside his two brothers and was a staunch member of the Baptist Church.  

He had his high school education at Robertsdale High School where he graduated in 1978 and proceeded to Auburn University in Alabama for a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering where he graduated in 1982. He earned his master’s degree in business administration at Duke University in Durham. 

He started his career first at International Business Machines Corporation (IBM), a computer manufacturer from 1982 to 1994. He joined Intelligent Electronics Inc as the Chief Operating Officer from 1994 to 1997 and proceeded to Compaq Computer Corporations in 1997 as the Vice president of corporate materials. 

In 1998, Tim joined the computer manufacturer Apple whereas Steve Jobs had already rejoined the company a year earlier. At that time he played the role of Senior Vice President of worldwide operations. Moving forward, he played major roles in the Computer occupying different positions from time to time. In 2004, Cook served as the acting CEO and chief of the Macintosh division at a time when Steve was ill with pancreatic cancer and had taken a leave to undergo treatment. On Steve’s return to work in 2005, the Auburn University graduate became the chief operating officer. Once again, Job went on leave to recover from his illness in 2009 hence Tim took over as acting CEO of the company till eventually Job resigned from the company and Cook succeeded him as the CEO in 2011. 

Apart from his role as the CEO of Apple, he is on the boards of directors of Nike Inc, and the National Football Foundation as well as a Trustee of Duke University.
