Tory Lanez Awards – Tory Lanez, whose birth name is Daystar Shemuel Shua Peterson, was born on July 27, 1992, in Brampton, Ontario.

He is known to be a Canadian rapper, singer, songwriter, and record producer as well as a convicted felon. Lanez gained initial recognition with his mixtape Conflicts of My Soul: The 416 Story, released in August 2013. He signed with Mad Love Records, owned by record producer Benny Blanco, through Interscope Records in 2015.

In 2016, Tory Lanez released his debut studio album, I Told You, which included the successful singles “Say It” and “Luv,” both of which charted on the Billboard Hot 100. He followed up with his second and third studio albums, Memories Don’t Die and Love Me Now?, in 2018. His fourth studio album, Chixtape 5, reached number 2 on the US Billboard 200 in 2019. Lanez has received several award nominations, including a Grammy Award nomination for his song “Luv” and four Juno Awards.

In 2020, Lanez released his fifth studio album, Daystar, which debuted at number 10 on the Billboard 200. The album sparked controversy due to Lanez’s responses to the shooting incident involving fellow rapper Megan Thee Stallion earlier that year. On December 23, 2022, Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Shemuel Shua Peterson, was convicted in the Los Angeles County Superior Court of three felony charges related to the shooting. The charges included assault with a semi-automatic firearm, having a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and discharging a firearm with gross negligence. He awaits sentencing and faces a possible prison term of up to 22 years and 8 months.

Lanez was born to a B ajan father, Sonstar, and a mother from Curaçao, Luella. The family initially lived in Montreal before relocating to Miami, Florida. After his mother’s passing, Lanez’s father became a minister and missionary, leading them to move frequently across the United States. Eventually, they settled in Atlanta, Georgia, where Lanez met his friend Hakeem. Lanez acquired his nickname “Lanez” from Hakeem, in reference to his fearless nature of exploring the streets and playing in the lanes without regard for traffic.

Due to behavioral issues, Lanez was sent to live with his cousin in Jamaica, Queens, New York, in 2006. He then moved to Toronto to live with his grandmother, who refused to care for him, leaving him to fend for himself at the age of 15. Lanez faced various challenges during this time but found solace in music, adopting the moniker “Tory Lanez” and starting his journey as a rapper. He dropped out of the tenth grade at the age of 16 and began performing at outdoor concerts. Additionally, he developed an interest in singing, despite having no formal vocal training.

Lanez has a son named Kai, and he also goes by the name “Argentina Fargo,” which he explains as a representation of being a Canadian artist in America, akin to foreign money.
