A few days ago, it was announced that the President together with some officials in the country have traveled to France after he was called to receive an honorary doctorate degree from the University of Sorbonne in Paris.

The president in a post he made on his Twitter page expressed his excitement and appreciation for the honor bestowed upon him by one of the best and prestigious tertiary institutions in Europe.

President Akufo Addo revealed that he was given the honor in recognition for his commitment in entrenching the values of democracy in Ghana and also fostering peace and stability in the West African Region and also for his Free SHS policy.

Today, I was presented with an honorary doctorate degree from the University of Sorbonne, in Paris, France, one of the most prestigious universities in Europe and the world, in recognition of my commitment to entrenching the values of democracy in Ghana fostering peace within the West African Region, guaranteeing access to a minimum of senior high school education for all of Ghana’s children through the implementation of the Free SHS policy, and also for the leadership shown in the fight against COVID-19, amongst others

, he wrote.

In reaction to that, Johnnie Hughes of TV3’s New Day morning segment stated that the Akufo Addo-led government has failed to be a listening government especially with the fact that the president abandoned the country just to receive a honorary doctorate degree.

He added that the president along with the officials who accompanied him to France had their flight and accommodation sorted out at the expense of the citizens.
