Tyre Nichols happens to be a 29-year-old Black-American who lost his life after he was being arrested and charged with reckless driving.
On January 7th 2023, Tyre Nichols was arrested and blocked by five Memphis police officers. According to accounts, there was a scuffle as authorities approached the driver, and he fled before being caught by the pursuing officers who then arrested him. He complained of having trouble breathing and was sent to the hospital.
A cause of death has not yet been determined, according to administrators. Nichols passed away on January 10, according to the state’s police department, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation. In response to Shelby County District Attorney General Steve Mulroy’s recommendation, the agency is in charge of an inquiry into the use of force.
The five officers who were terminated are all Black, according to a Memphis Police public details officer and they have been identified as Tadarrius Bean, Demetrius Haley, Emmitt Martin III, Desmond Mills Jr., and finally, Justin Smith.
The officers’ use of force, duty to intervene, and duty to offer help policies were broken, according to detectives conducting an internal assessment of the arrest, the chief said.
