Ghana has been blessed with so many wonderful actresses, both in the past and presently. Most of these oldies back in the day gave us so much fun that we can’t even forget the happy moments they gave us. It is sad to note that they are not seen on our screens regularly as we have used to.

Here are a few of the screen ‘goddesses’ who once made our screens very enjoyable:

#1 Grace Omaboe – Popularly called Maame Dokono, she was the first writer of the popular ‘Osofo Dadzie’ series which was aired in the 70’s. Her most popular TV program that kids used to love was ‘By the Fireside’, where she talked about Ghanaian folklore stories. She also starred in several Ghanaian movies. She later went into politics, where she contested for a parliamentary seat on the ticket of the NDC in 2004 before later defecting to the NPP in 2008.

#2 Grace Nortey – Auntie Grace played multi- character lead roles on Ghanaian television. She starred in a number of movies notably amongst them being ‘Escape to love’, ‘Ties that Bind’, ‘Sinking Sands’, and just recently ‘Beast of No Nation’. Now an octogenarian, she has no energy to star in any movies, but her previous movies are always available for all to ‘ponce’ on them and enjoy her wonderful moments.

#3 Rama Brew – This woman also really made our screens lit back in the day. Known for her mild nature but strict nature in movies, she actually stamped her authority on any movie role she was given. She starred in a host of movies and soaps including ‘Farewell to Dope’, ‘Ultimate Paradise’ and the popular TV series ‘Home Sweet Home’.

#4 Irene Opare – Known for her ‘tigerish’ nature in movies, Mama Irene also made our screens very lit. ‘Clean Mama’ as she is also called starred in movies like ‘Holby City’, ‘Piece of Me’ and ‘Crazy Love’ just to mention a few.

Although these screen ‘goddesses’ are not actively involved in movies recently, their good works are there for everyone to see. We say ‘Ayeekoo’ to these wonderful women and we thank them immensely for their contributions to the movie industry.
