About AKA
Kiernan Jarryd Forbes, better known by his stage name AKA, was a talented South African rapper who was born and raised in Cape Town. He rose to fame after releasing his debut single “Victory Lap” in 2011, which was taken from his first studio album Altar Ego.
Throughout his career, AKA continued to put out critically acclaimed albums, including Levels (2014), Touch My Blood (2018), Bhovamania (2020), and the collaborative album Be Careful What You Wish For with Anatii (2017). He was a prominent figure in the South African music scene, and his work was widely recognized and celebrated.
In April 2020, AKA teamed up with the vodka brand Cruz to launch a watermelon-flavored drink with his initials on the bottles. That same month, he was also featured as a special guest on WWE Live events held in Johannesburg and Cape Town. In 2019, he was the subject of a Comedy Central Roast special, which showcased his humor and wit.
AKA’s second album, Levels, was released on June 30th, 2014, and it was supported by four hit singles: “Jealousy”, “Kontrol” (featuring Da L.E.S), “Congratulate”, and “Run Jozi (Godly)” (featuring KO and Yanga). On November 6th, 2021, AKA released his Extended Play (EP) Bhovamania. The EP was well received by fans and was supported by four successful singles: “Energy”, “Python”, “Monuments”, and “Cross My Heart”. At the 10th South African Hip Hop Awards ceremony, AKA was nominated for Artist of the Decade, a testament to his lasting impact on the genre.
In early September 2022, AKA announced his upcoming studio album Mass Country on Instagram. Although the release date has not yet been revealed, fans are eagerly awaiting the album’s release. The lead single from the album, “Lemons [Lemonade]” featuring Nasty C, was released on September 16th, 2022, and it was certified Gold by RiSA.
