Vybz Kartel (born Adidja Azim Palmer on January 7, 1976) is a Jamaican reggae dancehall music singer, record producer, entrepreneur, and convicted killer. Among his many monikers, he is known as Worl’ Boss or Teacha.

He “attained folk-hero status in Jamaica with provocative lyrics and a mischievous public persona,” according to Rolling Stone, and “few have captivated [the dancehall] audience – or offended the sensibilities of its detractors – as consistently and thoroughly as Kartel.”

How many kids does Vybz Kartel own?

Vybz Kartel‘s first child was born on April 18, 2003, at the age of 27. He had two more children with the child’s mother, his longtime lover Tanesha ‘Shorty’ Johnson, after that. Kartel has six more children from previous partnerships. On May 17, 2020, it was discovered that Kartel’s 15-year-old son was expecting a kid with an 18-year-old lady, becoming Vybz’s first grandfather.

Why was Vybz Kartel Arrested?

Kartel was arrested for cannabis possession on September 29, 2011. Jamaica’s Major Investigation Taskforce (MIT) later charged him with murder, conspiracy, and illegal possession of a handgun in the death of Jamaican businessman Barrington Burton. His book The Voice Of The Jamaican Ghetto: Incarcerated But Not Silenced, co-written with business associate Michael Dawson, was released while he was in prison in 2012.

Kartel was granted bail for the Burton murder on March 23, 2012, for JMD$3,000,000, however, he remained in prison for a second murder, that of Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams of Waterford, St Catherine. He was charged with perverting the course of justice, along with two others, including Vanessa “Gaza Slim” Saddler, after Saddler allegedly claimed that Williams had robbed her in order to mislead authorities into believing he was still alive. Kartel’s trial was originally scheduled for January 21, 2013, but was postponed owing to a paucity of jurors and rescheduled for July 11, 2013.

On July 24, a jury found Kartel not guilty of murdering Barrington Burton. Kartel, on the other hand, remained in detention until the outcome of the second murder investigation. His trial for the murder of Clive Williams began on November 18, 2013, and on March 13, 2014, an eleven-member jury (10-1) found him guilty of the murder of 27-year-old Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams. The trial was claimed to be the longest in Jamaican history, lasting 65 days. Kartel was sentenced to life in prison on April 3, 2014. According to Justice Lennox Campbell, he will be eligible for parole after serving 35 years.
