Former Ghana President John Mahama joined the World Health Organization (WHO)’s #SafeHandsChallenge to promote the importance of washing hands amid the coronavirus pandemic.

In a video shared on his Twitter page, Mahama is seen washing his hands thoroughly and also talking about the importance of washing hands with soap.

He also urged the President Akufo-Addo Nigeria President Muhammadu Buhari and former Nigeria President Goodluck Jonathan to take it forward.

The virus emerged in Wuhan, China last December, and has spread to at least 159 countries and territories. Out of over 200,000 confirmed cases, the death toll now exceeds 8,000, while more than 82,800 patients have recovered, according to Worldometer, a website that compiles new case numbers.

Ghana has recorded six cases thus far.
