Adan Canto died on Monday, January 8, 2024, after battling appendiceal cancer, his publicist, Jennifer Allen said in a statement adding that Canto “had a depth of spirit that few truly knew. Those who glimpsed it were changed forever,” Allen’s statement read. “He will be greatly missed by so many”

Born in Mexico and raised in Texas, Canto first pursued a music career and after penning several songs for films and TV shows in Mexico, he switched to acting.

Adan’s first credit came in 2009 when he appeared in two episodes of “Estado de Gracia,” a TV series distributed in Mexico.

He then appeared in several Mexican TV shows and films until 2013, when he landed his breakout role in the US market on Season 1 of Fox’s “The Following”

Canto made his American acting debut with a 10-episode stint on “The Following”. One of his biggest roles was as Aaron Shore, the White House chief of staff and then vice president in the thriller “Designated Survivor” from 2016 to 2019.

He portrayed real-life politician, Rodrigo Lara Bonilla on “Narcos”,. His other TV credits included “Blood & Oil”, “Second Chance”, “Mixology”, and “The Catch”

He played the powerful mutant Sunspot in “X-Men: Days of Future Past”, and also appeared in the movies, 2 Hearts, Bruised, and The Devil Below. He directed two short films, Before Tomorrow and The Shot.

In 2021, Canto starred in his “X-Men” costar Halle Berry’s directorial debut “Bruised,” and appeared in the CIA thriller “Agent Game” in 2022 before starring in “The Cleaning Lady” that same year.

Speaking of his love for the art of acting, Canto told Anthem Magazine in 2022 that “it’s a fun job” and “a great world to be a part of.”

“I certainly give thanks every day for it. And it’s not an easy thing. It’s something that I kind of slipped into and I’m very blessed in that way. Yeah, I just can’t stop enjoying it. Every job is different,” he added.

Following his passing, Warner Bros. Television and Fox Entertainment issued a joint statement saying they were “heartbroken” to learn of Canto’s death, remembering him as “a wonderful actor and dear friend.” They added, “This is an unfathomable loss, and we grieve alongside his wife Stephanie, their children and loved ones. We will miss Adan dearly”
