The Gogglebox star died on Tuesday, March 27, 2024. According to several online reports, Essex Police resp onded to a call on Wednesday following reports that a man working at height had fallen and sustained injuries.

The incident is said to have happened at a warehouse in Shoeburyness where Gilbey was working as a self-employed electrician. Further reports indicate that an Air Ambulance was dispatched, but the actor died on the scene.

In an update of events, the police said it had arrested a man on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter. “This is a joint investigation with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and our inquiries are ongoing,” a police spokesperson said.

A spokesperson for HSE added; “We are aware of the incident and working with Essex Police in their investigation”. The police added that the arrested man was from the Witham area of Essex and further updates would be announced “proactively”.

Born in 1984, Gilbey became a household name following his appearance as a cast member on the Channel 4 series “Gogglebox”

Gilbey, along with his mum and stepdad, featured in eight series of “Gogglebox”, between 2013 and 2018.

In 2014, he took part in the fourteenth series of Celebrity Big Brother where he reached the final and finished in fourth place

Following Gilbey’s demise, tributes have poured in for the Gogglebox star. C4 Gogglebox wrote in a post on X: “Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with Linda, and George’s family and friends at this very sad time”

Ricci Guarnaccio, who appeared in Celebrity Big Brother with Gilbey, said he spoke to his friend only last week. “You are well and truly going to be missed my friend,” he wrote on X.

“Always lit up the room, cared for others and the memories we made I’ll cherish forever.”

Radio presenter Ian Wyatt said: “He was very, very approachable, very, very likeable – you’d have his mobile number which you could call at any time… he wasn’t precious at all about that sort of thing”
