Who are Wahid Satay’s Children? – Abdul Wahid bin Ahmad, popularly known as Wahid Satay or A. Wahid, was a renowned Singaporean actor, comedian, and singer.

Born in Indragiri, Riau, Sumatra, Indonesia, Wahid migrated to Singapore in 1935 and received his early education at Geylang Malay School.

Before entering the acting industry, Wahid pursued his hobby of painting and exhibited great talent. His exceptional paintings caught the attention of Cathay Keris Studios, which offered him a position as a studio set painter in 1956. Director B.N. Rao, impressed by Wahid’s sense of humor and ability to make others laugh, cast him in the film Pontianak in 1957.

In Pontianak, Wahid portrayed the role of a satay seller, which earned him the stage name “Wahid Satay.” His performance as the comedic satay seller became one of the most memorable scenes in the film. Pontianak achieved unprecedented success in Malay movie theaters, grossing over one million dollars, a record-breaking amount for that time.

Following his remarkable performance in Pontianak, Wahid was promoted to a full-time actor with a three-year contract. Not only skilled in acting, but Wahid also possessed a talent for singing. He frequently performed live shows to promote his films and received numerous invitations to perform on stage throughout his career. Wahid represented Cathay Keris Studios at various Asia Pacific Film Festivals in Tokyo, Manila, and Hong Kong.

Known as the “Jerry Lewis of Singapore and Malaya,” Wahid starred in numerous comedic lead and supporting roles during the 1950s and 1960s. He shared the screen with another popular comedic actor, Mat Sentul, in films such as Pak Pandir Moden and 2 kali 5, gaining further fame and recognition.
