On November 9, 2015 he made his first career start for his senior side in a loss against the Chicago Bulls. Although they lost, he scored a then season-high 11 points in the game. This performance was bettered against San Antonio Spurs (14 points) and the Utah Jazz (18 points) in December of same year.
Holmes was traded to the Phoenix Suns ahead of the 2018-19 season in exchange for cash considerations. After just a season with the Suns, he moved to the Sacramento Kings in a deal worth US%10 million on July 16, 2019.
