The prosecutors stated that not more than 16 bodies and more than two-dozen bags full of human remains have been found on the outskirts of the Guadalajara, Mexico.

Announcing on Thursday, the horrible discoveries were made over the last ten days, in four different regions in country’s west.

The ruins of 14 people were discovered on the border of one of the country’s most violent cities Guanajuato. It is believed to be inhabitants by various petrol-smuggling criminal groups.

The prosecutor said the bones of nine men and a woman were found on a small ranch whiles the bodies of three men and a woman “whose hands and feet were tied” were found outside a tin mine.

In one of Mexico’s largest cities, Guadalajara, 26 bags full of human remains were discovered and authorities explained that they have no idea the number of people that represents.

Jalisco state prosecutor Gerardo Solis said, “The Institute of Forensic Sciences will determine the number of bodies”.

Professionals and human rights groups explain say one of the main causes of an escalation of violence in Mexico is a controversial military offensive that was launched against criminal gangs in 2006 by President Felipe Calderon.

From that time, official figures show 287,000 murders have been committed in Mexico however it is unclear how many are directly linked to drug cartel violence.
