Nana Wiafe Asante-Mensah, professionally known as ASEM is a singer, rapper, songwriter and an actor. ASEM is a household name and a powerful force to reckon with in Ghana music industry.
ASEM was born on the shores of Cape Coast, Ghana. He started singing, dancing, recit ing poetry and writing at an early age of seven. His writting skills is what made him get recognition as a rapper and won many awards in his music career.
Today in Ghana music industry, many are those who believe ASEM is a washed up rapper with nothing to offer. Most new acts seem not to recognise the one time rapper who used to headline main events across the country both local and international. ASEM is undoubtedly the rapper who stepped into the Ghanaian music scene when the industry was crying out for a flamboyant artiste with the talent and personality to keep tongues wagging and scores of crowds entertained. Asem in his prime, revived Ghana music. Asem has shared the stage with international acts such as Rick Ross, Omarion, Fat Joe, Ja Rule etc.
The rapper over the few weeks has been seen engaged in an on-going beef with Sarkodie with which many believe Sarkodie is better rapper than ASEM. For this reason, we have gathered some few songs which shows that ASEM set the pace long before Sarkodie came into the limelight.
1. Gimme Blow – This rap song was released whiles he was still in journalism school on his first project “Better Late Than Never”.
2. Gimme Blow remix – The original version created waves due to his lyrical dexterity and his originality. He released a remix version of it and featured the undisputed Ga and “Last 2” rapper, BardMan Tinny, Andy Dosty, Bradez and Richie who was his manager and producer at Lynx Entertainment.
