In the midst of the ongoing wrangling in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) concerning who’s the ideal person to succeed Nana Akufo-Addo when his tenure of office elapses, the president has threatened to kick out ministers who chart this path.
This was made known to the general public by the General Secretary of the NPP, John Boadu. He thundered the warning from the president to those nurturing presidential ambition to shelve in the meantime and help him build Ghana. He’s quoted as saying;
‘President Akufo-Addo, in his capacity as the President of the Republic of Ghana, has made it clear that anybody that he finds to be distracting his government as a result of his or her ambition, he would not hesitate in getting them out of his government, so that they can concentrate on their presidential ambition or whatever.
Sometimes it is very difficult for me to talk about these things but it looks like that is what we are to do. So we are putting forward some proposals to the [NPP] National Steering Committee quickly by this month we would be at a National Executive Committee to fashion out some guidance in order to allow government work to go on.
What it means is that it would get all and sundry to understand that there is no point in testing waters now whether by their assigns or by they themselves or whoever and there would be very punitive sanctions if one decides to disobey such a measure’, Mr. Boadu noted.
In the same vein, Kennedy Agyapong earlier echoed the same sentiment saying the hullabaloo created by NPP members about who succeeds Nana Akufo Addo. According to him, this is distracting the President from performing and it’s a recipe for disaster for the party in 2024. In any case, he says Bawumia is the best person to lead the NPP in 2024.
‘I will plead with everyone to shelve the conversation about the ambition. If you don’t allow president Akufo-Addo to work for three years, I’m afraid you might have the best brain but the Ghanaians won’t vote for us. Our behaviour is clearly showing that defeat in 2024 is staring at us.’
